Strengthen
Tray
Our objective was to 2x increase in the durability of our award winning iPad case, while still maintaining the minimalist design and focus on sustainable materials.
Extensive
Materials
Research
We did our homework and studied a wide variety of sources.
We looked to existing wood products that are focused on impact strength and have been around for hundreds of years, eg, baseball bats, bokken (japanese wooden swords).
30+ designs
100+ plus prototypes
built & tested
No design compromises.
We continue to use solid pieces of bamboo even though it is more expensive and harder to work with than other materials like plywood because it delivers a case that is lighter weight and easier on the environment.
Methodical
testing:
250 drop tests
It hurts to break iPads, we know.
Over 250+ drop tests later, we ended up with a tray design that was 3.3x the strength of our old tray. An amazing result that is significantly better than theĀ original 2x strengthĀ goal we set out to achieve.
230%
stronger
tray
TA-DA!
We ended up delivering a new tray design that is 3.3x the strength of our old one, while only 9 grams heavier in weight. That's the weight of 9 paper clips, or just under the weight of two US Nickels.
We put a tremendous amount of effort into designing this new tray and are glad to make it available immediatly on all iPad 3/iPad 2 DODOcases.
